About Banke Bihari Temple:

Thakurji Bankey Bihari temple, Vrindavan is the one of the Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Kishna. It is the highly revered shrine of Vrindavan. It was established by Swami Haridas Ji, a guru of the famous singer Tansen. Once on the request of his disciples Swami Haridas ji sang the following verse in Nidhivan in Vrindavan. On singing the verse the Celestial couple Shyama shyam (Radha Krishna)appeared in front of him and his devotees. The temple was constructed in 1862 A.D with the contribution of Goswamis. After constructing of temple, Goswamis transferred the idol to this temple. According to the history of the temple, the image of Bihariji installed in the Shri Banke Bihari Mandir, is the one granted to Swami Haridas by the celestial couple Shyama-Shyam themselves. Submitting to the desire of devotees .The Lord appeared in person with his divine consort and left back a black charming image before disappering.

The temple is an architectural beauty in itself and follows the contemporary Rajasthani style. According to the legend, the original murti of Bihari Ji was buried underneath the ground at a place through where Haridas was passing. Lord Krishna Himself appeared in his dream and instructed him to dig up the idol. After digging up the idol Haridas was blinded by imense faith, and he built the Bankey Bihari Mandir the house it. Mythologically, Krishna spent his childhood and teenage days in Vrindavan so the idol here is in the form of Nand Gopal that is the childhood incarnation of Krishna. The temple today stands with its full glory, inside which the Lord himself resides. It is thronged by thousands of visitors everyday. Many of saints visits the temple.
