Vaishno Devi

Vaishno Devi, also known as Mata Rani, Trikuta and Vaishnavi, is a manifestation of the Hindu Mother Goddess of MahaKali, MahaSaraswati and MahaLakshmi. The words ""maa" and "mata" are commonly used in India for "mother", and thus are often used in connection with Vaishno Devi. Vaishno Devi Mandir is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu Goddess, located in Katra at the Trikuta Mountains within the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The Temple or Bhawan is 13.5 km from Katra and various modes of transportation are available from katra to Bhawan, including Ponies, Electric vehicles and paalkhis operated by 2 or 4 persons. Helicopter services are also available up to Sanjichhat, which is 9.5 km from Katra.

How to Reach

By Air: Jammu is well connected to the rest of India by air. Both Indian Airlines and Jet Airways operate daily flights to Jammu. The average flying time from New Delhi is about 80 minutes.

By Train : One can also reach Katra by rail. Jammu/Katra is connected to other parts of country on broad gauge and numerous passenger trains ply from various parts of the country. In the peak season of summer and other holidays, the Railways introduce special trains for  the comfort of the Yatris. Many superfast trains also ply on this route and one can reach Jammu/Katra overnight from New Delhi.

By Road : Jammu is well connected through road also to rest of India. National Highway No. 1A passes through Jammu towards Srinagar. Regular bus services from all major North Indian cities are available for Jammu as well as Katra. Many standard and deluxe buses of various State Road Transport Corporations as well as private operators connect Jammu with important cities and towns of North India.

Bhairavnath Temple: No journey to Katra is complete without having visited Bhairavnath Mandir. The cave temple of Bhairavnath is dedicated to a saint by that name. A steep 2km journey from the Bhawan leads you to Bhairavnath temple. The temple provides picturesque views of the forest fed mountains.

Ardh Kuwari Cave, Vaishno Devi Overview: Before making the Bhavan her abode, Mata Vaishnodevi was believed to have taken rest in this cave for 9 months. Today, this cave acts as a stopover for the pilgrims on their journey up to the Bhavan. An adventure for the kids, one has to crawl on his knees to reach the other side. Once on the other side, you can see a large shrine which is built dedicated to the three Goddesses - Kali, Laxmi and Saraswati. The darshan route is semicircular, so that you exit from a different opening at a small distance from the entry route.

 

Dera Baba Banda, Vaishno Devi Overview: An old Gurudwara, Dere Baba Banda is dedicated to Baba Banda Bahadur who was one of the favorite Jathedars of Guru Gobind Singh. The walls are filled with pictures depicting the times of war and various important personnels of that time. Being one of the important religious centers in Kashmir, the Gurudwara attracts a huge number of Hindus and Sikhs, especially during the three-day Vaisakhi mela.

 

Baba Dhansar: This Temple of Lord Shiva is located at a distance of about 15 Kms. from Katra on way to Salal Dam. Here, a huge spring emerges from the rocks in a thick grove of trees and forms a number of small cascading waterfalls before ultimately flowing into the Holy rivulet that merges with the Chenab River. There is a naturally formed Shivling on which droplets of water fall at a constant pace all the year round. A big fair is held here during Shivratri. For the facility of the yatris visiting the place, the Shrine Board has carried out some developments including the construction of a Dharamshalla.

बैद्यनाथ धाम ज्योतिर्लिंग :

बैद्यनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग मंदिर को ही बाबा बैद्यनाथ धाम भी कहा जाता है।इस जगह को शिव के सबसे पवित्र निवास स्थान और 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से एक माना जाता है। यह भारत के झारखंड राज्य के देवघर में स्थित है। इस मंदिर परिसर है बाबा बैद्यनाथ का ज्योतिर्लिंग स्थापित है।मंदिर परिसर में बैद्यनाथ धाम ज्योतिर्लिंग के अलावा 21 अन्य मंदिर भी हैं।

पूजा का महत्त्व:

भगवान शिव के पूजा में बेलपत्र चढ़ाना सर्वश्रेठ और शुभ माना गया है। तीन पत्तियों का संगम, शिव की तीन आंखों के अलावा उनके त्रिशूल का भी प्रतीक है, जो पिछले तीन जन्मों के पापों को नष्ट करने के वाला माना जाता है। हालाँकि, वृक्ष के बेलपत्र तोड़ने का भी एक समय होता हैं। कहा जाता हैं कि महादेव सौ कमल चढ़ाने से जितने प्रसन्न होते हैं, उतना ही एक नीलकमल चढ़ाने पर होते हैं और एक हजार नीलकमल के बराबर एक बेलपत्र होता है। इसीलिए भगवान शिव को प्रसन्न करने के लिए बेलपत्र चढ़ाना चाहिए।

About the Temple :

Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple, also known as Baba Baidyanath dham and Baidyanath dham is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the most sacred abodes of Shiva. It is located in Deoghar in the Santhal Parganas division of the state of Jharkhand, India. It is a temple complex consisting of the main temple of Baba Baidyanath, where the Jyotirlinga is installed, and 21 other temples.

About the Puja:

Offering Bilva or belpatra in Shiva Puja is important and considered auspicious. A confluence of three leaves, "Bilva" is symbolic of Shiva's three eyes as well as his trident (trishul) which is believed to destroy sins of the past three births. However, there are certain days when one should not pluck the bel leaves from a tree.
