LOTUS Temple

Situated in East of Nehru Place, New Delhi, this beautiful lotus flower shaped temple is one of
the seven major Bahai's temples built around the world. Completed in1986, this temple is set
among the lush green landscaped gardens.
The Lotus Temple, located in Delhi, India, is a Bahai House of Worship and serves as the Mother
Temple of the Indian subcontinent. The architectural significance and its concept of serving all
religion have contributed it in becoming a prominent attraction in the city. Like all Bahai Houses
of Worship, the Lotus Temple is open for every religion.
Architectural significance
The surface of this temple is made of white marble from Penteli Mountain in Greece. The
building features 27 free-standing marble-clad "petals" arranged in clusters of three to form
nine sides with nine doors opening onto a central hall. The central hall has a height of approx.
40 meters. Around the petals, there are nine pools of water which light up in natural light.
Because of this marvelous architecture, the temple has won numerous awards and been
featured in various leading newspapers and featured articles. It grabs millions of visitors every
year and thus declared as the most visited building in the world.
Tourism & Awards
 The Bahai House of Worship in Delhi was inaugurated to public worship in December
1986. By late 2001, it had attracted more than 70 million visitors and achieved a
milestone of becoming as one of the most visited sacred abodes in the world.
 It has received international awards for this brilliant piece of work including the awards
from the Glob Art Academy, Institution of Structural Engineers and more.

 It also gained recognition in several publications in the world like the Encyclopaedia
Britannia and Guinness World Records.
Interesting facts about Lotus Temple:
 The temple is one of the most visited places in the world. The temple is visited by more
than four million people every year with an average of more than 10,000 visitors daily.
 There is no idol to be worshipped and people of any faith, case and creed are welcome
inside. Even though everyone is welcome, no ritualistic ceremonies can be performed
inside the Lotus Temple nor can anyone deliver sermons. One can chant or read
scriptures of Bahai and other faiths too, in any language.
 The Bahai community offers four activities called the core activities for those who are
interested in the Bahai way of life. These activities are Children’s’ Classes, Junior Youth
Classes, Devotional Meetings, and Study Circles.

Other Temples to Visit Near Lotus Temple:
1. Laxmi Narayan Temple: Also known as Birla Mandir, is one of the major temples and
tourist attraction in Delhi. It was built by a very known industrialist, Sh. J.K. Birla in 1939
and holds a great religious significance. Dedicated to god Laxminarayan (usually refers
to Lord Vishnu), this temple is known to be the first Hindu temple built in Delhi.

2. ISKCON Temple Delhi: Located in New Delhi, Iskcon Temple is situated in East of Kailash.
This Vaishnav temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and Radharani in the form of Radha
Parthasarathi. The temple is open all days throughout the week but the main temple
hall is closed between 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It is close to the Nehru Place Metro station.
From there, one can take an auto or cycle rickshaw to reach the temple.

3. Kaljaki Devi Temple: Kalkaji Devi Temple is a prominent Hindu Mandir and is dedicated
to the Hindu Goddess Kali, an incarnation of Maa Durga. It is believed that the image of
the Goddess Kali is self-manifested one.

4. Prachin Bhairon Mandir: Pandava Kaleen Sri Kilkari Bhairav Temple or famously known
as Prachin Bhairon Mandir is an age-old temple built by the Pandavas during
Mahabharat. This temple has a unique tradition of offering alcohol to the Holy Deity-
Lord Bhairav unlike the other Hindu Temples where Prashad and baskets of dhoop and
flowers are being offered.

Points to keep in mind:
1. Lotus Temple is a place for silent prayer and meditation. So, one should not make noise.
2. Prayers timings are 10: AM, 12:00 PM, 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM for five minutes. People are
requested to not leave the Prayer Hall during this time, but wait until the prayers are over.
3. Reading non- scriptural texts, delivering sermons, playing instruments and fundraising are
forbidden here.

बैद्यनाथ धाम ज्योतिर्लिंग :

बैद्यनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग मंदिर को ही बाबा बैद्यनाथ धाम भी कहा जाता है।इस जगह को शिव के सबसे पवित्र निवास स्थान और 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से एक माना जाता है। यह भारत के झारखंड राज्य के देवघर में स्थित है। इस मंदिर परिसर है बाबा बैद्यनाथ का ज्योतिर्लिंग स्थापित है।मंदिर परिसर में बैद्यनाथ धाम ज्योतिर्लिंग के अलावा 21 अन्य मंदिर भी हैं।

पूजा का महत्त्व:

भगवान शिव के पूजा में बेलपत्र चढ़ाना सर्वश्रेठ और शुभ माना गया है। तीन पत्तियों का संगम, शिव की तीन आंखों के अलावा उनके त्रिशूल का भी प्रतीक है, जो पिछले तीन जन्मों के पापों को नष्ट करने के वाला माना जाता है। हालाँकि, वृक्ष के बेलपत्र तोड़ने का भी एक समय होता हैं। कहा जाता हैं कि महादेव सौ कमल चढ़ाने से जितने प्रसन्न होते हैं, उतना ही एक नीलकमल चढ़ाने पर होते हैं और एक हजार नीलकमल के बराबर एक बेलपत्र होता है। इसीलिए भगवान शिव को प्रसन्न करने के लिए बेलपत्र चढ़ाना चाहिए।

About the Temple :

Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple, also known as Baba Baidyanath dham and Baidyanath dham is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the most sacred abodes of Shiva. It is located in Deoghar in the Santhal Parganas division of the state of Jharkhand, India. It is a temple complex consisting of the main temple of Baba Baidyanath, where the Jyotirlinga is installed, and 21 other temples.

About the Puja:

Offering Bilva or belpatra in Shiva Puja is important and considered auspicious. A confluence of three leaves, "Bilva" is symbolic of Shiva's three eyes as well as his trident (trishul) which is believed to destroy sins of the past three births. However, there are certain days when one should not pluck the bel leaves from a tree.
