Located in Prabhas Patan in Saurashtra on the western coast of Gujarat, Somnath Temple is believed to be the first among the twelve jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva. This important pilgrimage had been reconstructed several times in the past. The present temple was reconstructed in Chaulukya style of Hindu temple architecture and completed in May 1951. The reconstruction was envisioned by Vallabhbhai Patel and was completed under K. M. Munshi, the then head of the temple trust.
According to tradition, the Shiva-linga in Somnath is one of the twelve jyotirlingas in India, where Shiva is believed to have appeared as a fiery column of light.

Worship Timings of the Temple:
The temple opens for Darshan at 6.00am in the morning and remains open for Darshan until 9.00pm in the night. There are three times Aarti at the temple. Thus, devotees can attend Aarti at 7.00am, then again at 12.00 noon and then at 7.00pm in the evening.

Jet Airways operates passenger flight from Bombay to Diu every day accept Thursday. Somnath is connected with Diu by road (95 km).
