KEDARNATH TEMPLE

Kedarnath Temple commonly known as Kedarnath, is a Hindu temple. The Kedarnath dedicated to the Lord Shiva. It is situated in the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini River in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand in India. Kedarnath is highest among the 12 Jyotirlingas.  It’s situated at a distance of 223 km from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand and close to the source of Mandakini River at a height of 3,583 m (11,755 ft) above sea level. The Kedarnath temple region finds mention even in the Mahabharata.

ARCHITECTURAL STYLE

The Kedarnath temple, like most ancient temples of its period, is constructed in the ashlar style of construction in which stone slabs are interlocked into each other without the use of mortar or cement. This temple, over a thousand years old is built of massive stone slabs over a large rectangular platform. Ascending through the large gray steps leading to the holy sanctums we find inscriptions in Pali on the steps. The present temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya. The inner walls of the temple sanctum are adorned with figures of various deities and scenes from mythology.

Timings of the Temple:

Temple is closed from 3 pm to 5 pm so plan to be at temple before 3 pm. Before 3 pm visitors can touch idle and do Abhishek with Ghee. After 5 PM no one can touch idle but can get Darshan with a distance. At this time idle is in Emperor Costume. The temple at Kedarnath enshrining the Jyotirlingam of Shiva opens only six months of a year (April-November) when the sun enters the zodiac sign of Aries and it is closed when the sun enters Scorpio.

HOW TO REACH

  • By Air: Nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun, 239 km. Actually, this airport is closer to Rishikesh (approx. 16 km) and takes roughly 20-30 minutes to reach Rishikesh. From there you need to book a taxi or take a bus to reach Joshimath. 
  • By Rail: The closet railway stations to Kedarnath are at Rishikesh (215 kms), Haridwar (241 kms), Dehradun (257 kms) and Kotdwar (246 kms). Rishikesh is not connected by fast trains and Kotdwar has very less number of trains. However, Haridwar railway station, 25 km from Rishikesh is better connected with New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Amritsar and Howrah.
  • By Road: Kedarnath is approachable on foot, 14 km from Gaurikund, which is connected by road with Rishikesh, Kotdwar, Dehradun, Haridwar and other important hill stations of Garhwal and Kumaon hills.
  • Local Transport : Horses, dandies and ponies are available at Gaurikund for going and carrying luggage to Kedarnath.

Gangotri is a Hindu pilgrim town on the banks of the river Bhagirathi and origin of River Ganges. The temple of Gangotri located at an altitude of 3042 m overhead sea level amidst captivating surroundings. Conferring to famous Hindu legend, it was here that Maa Ganga embodied when Lord Shiva free the huge river from the locks of his hair.

YAMUNOTRI TEMPLE: Yamunotri Temple commonly known as Yamunotri, is a Hindu temple. The Temple of Yamunotri at the source of river Yamuna is the western - most temples in the Garhwal Himalayas. It’s located at an height of 3,293 metres (10,804 ft) in the Garhwal Himalayas and positioned approximately 30 kilometers (19 mi) North of Uttarkashi in the Garhwal Division of Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the four sites in India's Chhota Char Dham pilgrimage.

बैद्यनाथ धाम ज्योतिर्लिंग :

बैद्यनाथ ज्योतिर्लिंग मंदिर को ही बाबा बैद्यनाथ धाम भी कहा जाता है।इस जगह को शिव के सबसे पवित्र निवास स्थान और 12 ज्योतिर्लिंगों में से एक माना जाता है। यह भारत के झारखंड राज्य के देवघर में स्थित है। इस मंदिर परिसर है बाबा बैद्यनाथ का ज्योतिर्लिंग स्थापित है।मंदिर परिसर में बैद्यनाथ धाम ज्योतिर्लिंग के अलावा 21 अन्य मंदिर भी हैं।

पूजा का महत्त्व:

भगवान शिव के पूजा में बेलपत्र चढ़ाना सर्वश्रेठ और शुभ माना गया है। तीन पत्तियों का संगम, शिव की तीन आंखों के अलावा उनके त्रिशूल का भी प्रतीक है, जो पिछले तीन जन्मों के पापों को नष्ट करने के वाला माना जाता है। हालाँकि, वृक्ष के बेलपत्र तोड़ने का भी एक समय होता हैं। कहा जाता हैं कि महादेव सौ कमल चढ़ाने से जितने प्रसन्न होते हैं, उतना ही एक नीलकमल चढ़ाने पर होते हैं और एक हजार नीलकमल के बराबर एक बेलपत्र होता है। इसीलिए भगवान शिव को प्रसन्न करने के लिए बेलपत्र चढ़ाना चाहिए।

About the Temple :

Baidyanath Jyotirlinga temple, also known as Baba Baidyanath dham and Baidyanath dham is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the most sacred abodes of Shiva. It is located in Deoghar in the Santhal Parganas division of the state of Jharkhand, India. It is a temple complex consisting of the main temple of Baba Baidyanath, where the Jyotirlinga is installed, and 21 other temples.

About the Puja:

Offering Bilva or belpatra in Shiva Puja is important and considered auspicious. A confluence of three leaves, "Bilva" is symbolic of Shiva's three eyes as well as his trident (trishul) which is believed to destroy sins of the past three births. However, there are certain days when one should not pluck the bel leaves from a tree.
